Little did we know, the Alaskan Highway is only 1,422 miles long and officially ends in Delta Junction, 101 miles from Fairbanks.

The Alaskan Highway: 1,523-miles and just 8 months to complete

  • On March 9, 1942, the US Army Corps of Engineers (11,000 strong) began creating a direct land route from the United States to the Alaska Territory.  It originated as an emergency passage for America troops during WWII following the Japanese occupation of the Aleutian Islands.
  • The Alaskan Highway takes travelers, such as ourselves, on a 3-5 day scenic tour from Dawson Creek, British Columbia - through the Yukon Territory to Whitehorse, then down through Delta Junction to Fairbanks.

Visit our page often.  We will be keeping out set live and up to date as we travel across Canada to Alaska, down the west coast, then back through the states to Rochester.  The trip will be about 6 weeks long as we travel over 11,000 miles throughout North America.
